The president of the United States is a global celebrity whose every action is endlessly commented upon and dissected for meaning by the news media, foreign powers (both friends and foes alike) and the public.
In the age of television and now the internet, there are hundreds of thousands of hours of video and audio footage of every president widely available. There are also rumors and leaks from within the White House and other branches of government that can help paint a picture of a given president's moods, desires, thoughts and other behavior. What is to be done if this evidence collectively suggests that the president of the United States is mentally ill?

Trump 2020: Be Very Afraid

America is the first country to ever elect a Mad King, and the way things are going, we may be dumb enough to do it twice
By MATT TAIBBI
Early evening, August, Cincinnati. The Queen City’s many bridges are sealed off, its sky is dirty with helicopters, and seemingly every cop for 100 miles is patrolling Pete Rose Way along the Ohio River. A crowd of 20,000 or more stands in punishing heat, waiting to enter U.S. Bank Arena. The evil rumor buzzing down the line of MAGA hats is that not everyone will get in to see Donald Trump.
“Can we just get in for a minute?” complains a boy of about 10 to his mother. There are a lot of kids here.
Donald Trump doesn’t visit Middle America. He descends upon it. His rallies are awesome spectacles. Gawkers come down from the hills. If NASA traveled the country holding showings of the first captured alien life-form, the turnout would be similar. The pope driving monster trucks might get this much attention.
Almost everyone in line is wearing 45 merch. Trump is the most T-shirtable president in history, and it’s not even close. Trumpinator tees are big (“2020: I’LL BE BACK”)

Turns out it’s lonely at the top, especially when you have a tendency to fire aides in a ruthless and sudden fashion.
“He has nobody around him. There’s nobody,” one person close to the president told our White House correspondent Peter Nicholas.
And as the impeachment inquiry deepens, with public hearings launching next week, it could get worse. Despite Republican assurances otherwise, the evidence so far isn’t landing in the president’s favor.
For previous occupants of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, aides offered comfort, gut-checks, and candid feedback in tense moments. The current president’s chronic isolation may feed destructive tendencies. As Peter puts it, “as the stressors of impeachment grow, so does the prospect of more erratic behavior and self-sabotage.”
